Difference between a credit and a message?

A standard 160 character SMS text message costs 1 credit. But once this limit is exceeded an additional credit is required to send the message. Every 160 characters of text cost 1 credit

MMS messages i.e. those with picture or audio attachments are automatically 2 credits not including the credits required to send any additional text included with the attachments.
